Die Fundació NUMA Espais de Cultura, ein Raum für Kunst in Ciutadella, präsentiert die zweite Ausstellung seit der Eröffnung im April 2024. Ab dem 8. Mai wird der japanische Künstler Hiroshi Kitamura 25 Werke zeigen, darunter Skulpturen und Tuschezeichnungen. Seine Arbeiten erforschen Begriffe wie Verwandlung, Vererbung, Leere, Unbeständigkeit und den ursprünglichen Akt, sie offenbaren einen ständigen Dialog zwischen Natur und Kreativität.
Das Werk von Hiroshi Kitamura (Hokkaido, Japan, 1955) entwickelt sich in drei grundlegenden Phasen, die auf der Vorstellung des Künstlers als „Helfer“ im Prozess basieren. Zunächst begibt sich der Künstler auf die Suche nach dem Rohmaterial, wobei er es ihm überlässt, es zu finden, anstatt ihm einen Zweck aufzuzwingen. Zuhören und Beobachten sind in diesem anfänglichen Prozess wesentlich, in dem er auch Skizzen anfertigt, um die Form des Werks zu erahnen. In der zweiten Phase reinigt Kitamura das Holz, indem er es entrindet, um seine Geschichte und Erinnerung freizulegen. In der dritten Phase schließlich setzt er die Stücke zusammen, wobei er ihre Persönlichkeit, ihre natürlichen Formen und ihre Maserung respektiert. Anstatt die Verbindung zu erzwingen, sucht der Künstler ein Gleichgewicht zwischen seinem Eingriff und dem eigenen Willen des Materials.

Die Fundació NUMA Espais de Cultura am Hafen von Ciutadella ist ein Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, das durch partizipative Ausstellungen und Aktivitäten zum Nachdenken und zur Weiterentwicklung anregen möchte. Gegründet wurde die Einrichtung von Marie Hélène Beharel und Joan Pons, Kunstliebhabern aus Menorca, mit dem Ziel, Künstler zu unterstützen und das lokale kulturelle Ökosystem zu stärken. Mit Marie Hélène als Präsidentin und einem Team, das in Ciutadella verwurzelt ist, hat sich die Stiftung zu einem Ort entwickelt, der Verbindung und Integration durch Kunst fördert.

The Fundació NUMA Espais de Cultura, an art space in Ciutadella, is presenting its second exhibition since opening in April 2024. From 8 May, Japanese artist Hiroshi Kitamura will be showing 25 works, including sculptures and ink drawings. With his creations, he delves into concepts such as transformation, inheritance, emptiness, impermanence, and the primordial act, and we can appreciate a constant dialogue between nature and creativity.
The work of Hiroshi Kitamura (Hokkaido, Japan, 1955) develops through three fundamental phases based on the notion of the artist as a ‘helper’ in the process. First, the artist wanders in search of raw material, allowing it to find him rather than imposing a purpose. Listening and observation are essential in this initial process, in which he also makes sketches to intuit the form of the work. In the second phase, Kitamura cleans the wood, stripping it of its bark to reveal its history and memory. Finally, in the third stage, he assembles the pieces while respecting their personality, their natural forms and grain. Rather than forcing the union, the artist seeks a balance between his intervention and the material’s own will.

The Fundació NUMA Espais de Cultura, located on the port of Ciutadella, is a centre dedicated to contemporary art that seeks to encourage reflection and growth through accessible and participatory exhibitions and activities. Founded by Marie Hélène Beharel and Joan Pons, art lovers and residents of Menorca, the institution was created with the aim of supporting artists and strengthening the local cultural ecosystem. With Marie Hélène as president and a team rooted in Ciutadella, the foundation has become a welcoming space that promotes connection and inclusion through art.
