Four compelling reasons to visit Mallorca this September
The days remain cloudless and sunny, though the nights are getting a little cooler. September is the perfect time for a trip to the Balearics. If you book Mallorca after the main summer holidays, you can enjoy the beaches, cafés and restaurants in a relaxed atmosphere. Active holidaymakers combine sightseeing with a hike. Water sports enthusiasts test out new water toys in the bays around the marinas, and the 28th edition of the ‘Nit de l’Art’ art night is due to take place.
With around 600 tennis courts, 23 golf courses, hiking trails through the Tramuntana mountains and 500 km of cycle routes, Mallorca offers active holidaymakers plenty of variety. Water sports enthusiasts don’t just come here to swim or sail.
Hiking with spectacular sea views
Slow travel is in. The breathtaking landscapes along the coast of Mallorca can be easily explored on foot. Qualified trekking or canyoning guides show remote routes through waterfalls and caves — for those looking for real adventure.
There are two easy routes for hikers near Palma. In the south-west near Andratx, a circular trail leads over eleven kilometres from Sant Elm past the ruins of the Trappist monastery La Trapa with views of the ‘dragon island’ Dragonera.
If you want to visit the famous Valldemossa Charterhouse first, you can take Archduke Ludwig Salvator’s bridleways to the Mirador de Can Costa. It takes around four hours to walk around the famous mountain village, where Hollywood star Michael Douglas also has a second home.
Water (fun) sports in the marinas
The marinas in the southwest – including Port Adriano, Puerto Portals and Port Calanova – offer sailing lessons as well as the hire of SUP boards, jet skis and kayaks in their water sports centres. Here you will also find novelties such as the ‘bicipaddleboard’, a bicycle on a SUP board, or e-foiling boards and jetcars that can be hired by the hour.
Motor or sailing yachts take you to secluded bays and offshore islands that cannot be reached on foot. An experienced captain steers the charter boat while guests go snorkelling on their day trips before a picnic is served on board. If you want to be romantic on a special occasion, the boats depart later and you can watch the sun go down at sea.
Nit de l’Art brings art collectors from all over the world to the island
On 21 September 2024, the 28th Art Night in Palma will take place, organised by Art Palma Contemporani, the association of contemporary art galleries in Palma. This year, twelve galleries will be presenting special exhibitions between 6 pm and 11 pm in the old town, including Aba Art Lab, Kewenig, L21 and Pelaires – the museums in the capital open for free on this evening. We recommend also visiting Es Baluard, the museum with a sea-view terrace overlooking the Paseo Maritimo.
Where to stay
Staying in your ‘own’ house is more private than staying in a hotel. Holiday rental companies present exceptional properties in the southwest of the island that are so fully equipped that even families with preschool children will find everything they need for everyday life. The rustic Finca Bella Roca is located in the Tramuntana mountains above Galilea, offering a Mediterranean lifestyle for discerning guests with a sea-view pool, garden, lounge with open-plan kitchen and bedrooms for eight adults and children. The guest relations team at The Private Hideaway takes care of all the details of the guests’ holiday.
Special offer
If you book Finca Bella Roca from 7 to 14 September 2024 with codeword DeluxeMallorca, you will receive a 15 per cent discount on the rental price.
